Okay i like thai movies, they are interesting, gritty new and off the wall.
I have seen in the last week
Ong Bak
Bangkok Haunted 1
Bangkok Haunted 2
and something else i dont remember.

what do these films have in common? UWE my friends, UWE.

okay. I will say first, maybe my copy, or the last two, of BH1 have been shit. Stories out of order, scenes i feel were missing, half an entire segment of the movie in another story, imagine three stories, like creepshow. cept an editor fucked up and put the first ones ending in the middle of the last story.
MY DVD ASIDE.

the first story...SUCKED...it could have been good, but there was a girl with nails, with razors, that had something to do with a drum and you never see here again. But find out she was someone who went missing, then someone got possesed and something else happend...hmm.
I am going to submit my review on this, to the editor, but sufficed to say the second story was great...and i fast forwarded the last one. I read a detective mystery book, 3 minute murders, which let you try to figure out what happened back in the mid 80s..the hacks just took that story and remade it.

BH2 nothing to do with the first, thank god. Nice...well okay movie. The lead lady was...average, nothing to write home to mom. Hated her hair cut...The smoking while pregnant thing.lol thats so not in anymore

pretty okay story, more of a mystery then a ghost story, but sort of mixed.

NOW THAI CINEMA.

imagine you write a 100 page movie, then you take the middle give it to some guy tell him to rewrite it, giving onyl vague outlines of what happens before and after and watch what happens.
THEN.
Cut scenes out and dont explain shit. Just take a whole relevant sense making scene and throw it out. Add sloppy ediitng so that a scene runs over the next.

DOnt bother to subtitle everything, have the worst english grammer in teh world. Add some shit in that dosnt make sense and then to top it off run the translations by either to fast, or over white backgrounds.
GRRR....Thai film is good, its interesting but very sloppy. I think thats the key problem. Much like the korean films use to be. Editing is a trick best left to the proffestionals. Its like a ton of money went to make it. and then some director slapped some editors sister, or pissed in his coffee and the editor does everything to fuck up the story.

Oh BTW...heres a twist ending.
have a big lead up, hint at a great ending, or at least a logical one, then dump that idea and run the alternatvie, we need this film done now, oh and fuck the director ending.
YOu seen the eye 2, the whole concept of reincarnation yadda yadda mother baby...then hint at it, forshadow it....HAVE THE VILLAN scream it at a ghost then forget to add it at the end.
jsut like Ong bak, lets jsut take out about a minute and twenty seconds and leave it at home.

sigh it better get fixed, and some editors need to be shot or i wont stick it out much more in thai films!

I haven't really seen very many Thai movies myself. It's often hard to find them on DVD, not to even mention, looking for a review of a movie from that country.

So far, I own or have seen...

BANGKOK DANGEROUS - a decent gangster flick with patented Asian action shootouts. It's also the first movie I saw from the Pang Brothers.

SURIYOTHAI - the big epic period piece. It's an interesting watch but overall, it's kinda over-hyped in my opinion.

KRAI THONG - shitty all day long horror flick about people who can change into giant crocodiles. The naked gator girls sorta make up for it.

BODY JUMPER - I've only watched alittle of this one. Pretty crazy looking from what I've seen so far. Reminds me of a Japanese anime show.

GARUDA - a giant prehistoric humanoid bird monster gets free and kills lots of people. Very stylish and fun to watch.

CHAOS IN THE GRAVEYARD - a wonky horror comedy that I haven't had a chance to watch yet.

ONG BAK - it's Tony Jaa's big movie. No explanation needed for this one. Thanks goes out to JAY for this one.

And that's about all I can think of.

I do hear NANG NAK is a pretty good supernatural horror movie and I look forward to the new Tony Jaa action flick.

Ong bak goes without saying B)

While I thought Garuda was kinda lame, I do give a big thumbs up to:

Born to Fight- from the stunt/fight director of Ong Bak. Film kicks serious ass and has some INSANE stunts. OK, character and plot are non-existant, but tons of cool non-CGI old school blood and sweat action. DM, get that DVD burner yet? :shifty:

Tears of the Black Tiger- pop-art Thai Western. Meladrama, cowboy outfits, modern weapons, best use of bright colors this side of a Seijin Suzuki film, and some gunplay. Must be see to be believed. Another great film in which art and exploitation collide.

Why yes I have.

But alas, I still haven't signed up for NicheFlix yet though. My buddy has so I'll see how good they actually are. I did ask him to rent me the uncut Japanese edition of KILL BILL Volume 1.

Oh, I forgot to add SHUTTER to the list of Thai movies that I've got. I watched it last night and wow, it's a good one.

Now granted, it's yet another Asian supernatural "pale faced spirit girl with long black hair seeking revenge" flick but outta all the spook movies I've watched since the original RINGU and JUON, this girl's one of the scariest looking things I've ever seen. And the film's got great scare moments too.

Definitely worth the viewing.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHH

And I was conned into seeing shutter!

I cant believe i didnt read the fine print.
WELL THAI CINEMA IS NOW BANNED...until i am tricked again.

WHY I HATE SHUTTER.

1.Continuity. Car hits girl, front left light smashed out.
-Car then drives at night with brand new light.
then broken.
then fixed then broken REPEAT UNTIL YOU SCREAM.

2.VERY IMPORTANT. watch Bangkok haunted 2, the ENTIRE STORY FELT CRIBBED. I mean spirits photographs, gurls rescuingvictims, being haunted, trying to learn a message.

FOR FUCKS SAKE THEY USED SOME SAME ACTORS.
I am not yet at the worst part.
3.THAI cinema seems to have a need for people to plunge off buildings, it happened 5 times? wait....3+main guy twice, is that two different times? or once?
Bangkok haunted. Main character jumps of building twice...hey wait a minute?
Villian also jumps off, and then someone else jumped off????? I see a patern.
4.Did i mention ALL OF BANGKOK 2 WAS CRIBBED? oh ya i did.
5.Man takes sleeping pills, falls asleep on girlfriends lap....girlfriend looks at camera on table.
BANG editor has fight with director AGAIN...we are now on a road somewhere, driving somewhere to do something...WHICH WE DONT KNOW WHY OR HOW.

let me recap.
I take pills (we have had many dream squences YAWN so we are all unsure of this is real or not.) Then we are in car? going? dont know. Why? dont know, when? dont know.
Fight with a ladyboy...then we are going to the girls house who is dead, how? dont know...where did this info come from? dont know.

6. Cool scene lets place pictures of spirits in different poses to see whats going on? except you cant tell shit, but apparently they pointed to a window...how? dont know.

7.Editing was choppy, but i can live with that.
the only cool scene, and even then...THe ladder BTW was cribbed from RING, if she looked anymore like SAMARA, why was her hair wet? I cant even tell you why in pictures she looked one way, when haunting another.

8.isnt it againts the law what the mother was doing? even in a poor country?
9.Picture moving....YAWN....I believe that was in a Pang brother film, maybe eye 2...or a ring picture? shit I have seen to many movies this week.
no it was in one missed call i think.
well whatever that whole pic was cribbed.
THIS MOVED CRIBBED MY ASS.
10.Sadly the ending rocked, it was very cool....I have never seen a movie where the best part was the best, when the ENTIRE FIRST 3 quarters blew donkey balls.

THAI CINEMA SUCKS.
I am sick of Buddhists, and knowing abotu spirits. Which reminds me, they all see ghosts, know a shit load about the supernatural but can never do anything hmm.

11.That whole line and shit about spirits in pictures YAWN....the pictures were so faked.

but regardless...you guys, go watch BANGKOK haunted 2 and DARE THEN SAY SHUTTER WAS GOOD...you will be like, what the fuck BANGKOK HAUNTED 3????

really can you not at least admit there was some wacky cut scenes where characters suddenly were doing things and forgetting to explain them?

12.Killing of of characters we never really see, hear or give a damn about...and if they

SPOILER
were all best friends how the FUCK did he now know they ALL COMMITTED suicide. MADE NO SENSE.

WHY KEEP THOSE PHOTOS IN THE APARTMENT>

AHH.
Idiots.
THAI CINEMA SUCKS .

Hmmmmm, well, I haven't seen BANGKOK HAUNTED so I can't compare the two. But as for SHUTTER, sure, it's meager and modest storyline doesn't break any new ground for the genre but I think the movie works quite well KNOWING that you (the viewer) are already familiar with this type of subject matter and the direction it plans to go in. I don't personally have a problem with that because I truely love the Asian ghost movie genre in all it's many forms, from the shitty ones like SLEEPING WITH THE DEAD to the blatant ripoff's like JU-REI.

So, in reply...

This may be true but c'mon, getting alittle nit picky, are we?

Well, since Natre (the ghost girl) had committed suicide herself, maybe this was her particular way of getting back at them. However, I do agree that a few more creative deaths would have been much better.

If you remember, Tun's girlfriend (Jane) found Natre's school yearbook (or something similiar to it) that contained all kinds of photos and letters and stuff. I'm assuming that her address was in there too and they set off the next morning to see if Natre is indeed alive or dead.

It looked to me as though she was drawing attention to the bookcase, revealing the location of the hidden packet of photos to Tun's girlfriend. This would later set up Tun and Jane's confrontation.

They ALL look like Samara in these kinda movies. But I thought Natre was just scarier in the face. Great contact lenses too. As for why her appearance varied on different occassions, who knows, it's a supernatural thing. I don't try to explain such stuff.

Well, I do have to agree with you there. And wouldn't the corpse start to stink really bad too? I just assume that the mother had gone insane with grief so she didn't know what she was doing was wrong.

Yeah, I know I've seen something like that before too but I can't remember exactly where. But no matter what, it's still a cool thing to do.

Yes, I agree that the ending was exceptionally nice. I really loved the reason why his neck was always sore. That was just great!

I'm not a Buddhist so I can't comment on that.

Well, at the beginning of the film, they were all together for the wedding. Maybe they just don't keep in touch with each other now like they used to back in school. Jane had even said that they seemed like a nice bunch of guys which implies that she's never met any of them before. Maybe the incident that happened back then drove Tun away from them but the rest of the gang still hangs out together. That would explain why his buddy's wife knew and had to tell him about the others being dead.

Yeah, no shit! I know I wouldn't have. But you gotta admit, sometimes people often do dumb things when it comes to being involved in a horrible crime.

Actually I do agree, maybe i was angry after seeing so much rip off. I will be nice.

I would watch it again jsut for the ending.

But no the pics of the book case really were cool, I enjoyed that.

the pics i meant were the graduation day when the ghost was supposed to be pointing at the top window, i never got that.

ya you are right people do do some dumb shit.

I actually felt for natre a lot...and thats it. but she still made me sad.

If you're talking about the blurry ghost image pointing to the multi-level school building, then that's an easy one to answer. The pointing to that area led Jane to the classroom where she discovered Natre's book, and her address. Which in turn, took both Tun and Jane to Natre's house.

Another giant crocodile movie from Thailand. I just hope it's better than KRAI THONG, a real stinker. Anyway, it's called BRUTAL RIVER. Here's the link to the website with a small trailer...
