my personal favourite type of horror film is Asian, especially Japanese, because they have the money and technology to make the gore and blood look real ^^
such films as Battle Royale ( my favourite horror film ), Audition, Ichi the Killer.
But i also like Horror films with a story behind it, like " A tale of Two sisters " even though this film was Korean, i still thought it was brilliant, it was confusing, but that it what i like :D it also shows that the younger generation can be just as malevolent as the older
Battle Royale was good, bcause that sort of had a story behind it, but it is like Tale of Two sisters, it has the younger generation. i especially liked Mitsuko Souma (Shibasaki Kou) i thought, that it was like her duty to kill everyone, because she was such a loser! she successfully did that, until she dies
what do you feel about this film, and Asian horror films ?

i love Battle Royale and A Tale of Two Sisters, Did you find the original Ring scary? I watched it expecting to be scared out of my wits but it just disappointed me. I didnt think it was scary at all.

Ah, the lovely Mitsuko, or as I like to call her, "BATTLE ROYALE's psychotic goddess".
But perhaps "loser" is too harsh a word for her. From reading the novel, it's obvious that she had quite the troubled childhood which led to her introversion of being callous, cold, and always on the lookout for herself.
I can't blame her for playing the "game", but to revel in it's spectacle of murder and mayhem, well, that's something completely different.

When I first saw RINGU a couple years ago, I was thrilled by it. It was new, fresh, and unique. But since then, there's been quite a few Asian spook films to come along that have outdone it in every aspect. JUON THE GRUDGE, A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, THE PHONE, DEAD FRIEND, ONE MISSED CALL, and WISHING STAIRS all spring to mind.
I'd recommend RINGU to people but only as an additional title to seek out after you've seen some of the others I just listed.

I'm really looking forward to seeing "A Tale of Two Sisters"! Recently, I got a hold of a copy of the Japanese zombie flick, "Junk" - which I have yet to watch - and I've been steadily making my way through Miike's works.
So far my favorites of relatively recent Asian cinema are... "Audition", "Happiness of the Katakuris", "Versus", "The Isle", "Shaolin Soccer", "Natural City" and "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring".
The only thing with Japanese horror in particular, which I find a little frustrating, is that sometimes rather than using real blood effects, they use animated CGI blood splatters instead, which, imo, look nothing as realistic or cool as good old corn syrup and red food dye;) Recent examples of some use of the CGI blood trend... "Ichi The Killer" and Kitano's "Zatoichi" remake.

By far, the "smartest" movie I've seen in years. You won't be disappointed.
I just saw this the other day, TARTAN USA is releasing a two disc R1 uncut unrated special edition DVD this March 29th.
http://cinemabizarre.blogspot.com/twosisters%20r1%20dvd.jpg
The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen along with Korean Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround tracks. English and Spanish subtitles will also be provided. Extras on the unrated edition will include an audio commentary with the director, cinematographer and lighting director, a second commentary with the director and stars, behind-the-scenes footage and cast interviews. Completing the two-disc package will be deleted scenes, post production documentaries, a director’s analysis, a psychiatrist’s perspective feature, previews of new Tartan Asia Extreme releases and eastereggs.
I guess it'll be time to trade up my single disc R3 DVD for this one.
