First up, the zombies. It looks as though the Year of the Zombie is continuing on schedule. Tobe Hooper, who was originally to helm RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD back in the 1980s, will now be helming RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD PARTs 4 and 5. Here's hoping the films are as entertaining as the first and third ( my favorite ) installments. And also hoping Hooper interrupts his poor track record.
Also in zombie news, the Aussie flick UNDEAD will get distribution in the land down under in mid-2003. Meanwhile, HOUSE OF THE DEAD was sold to 25 different countries in the recent American Film Market. The countries include the UK, France, Germany and Korea. But oddly enough, the project still hasn't gotten distribution it it's country of origin - the United States. Weird.
And now, sequels no one asked for. Or if they did, they shouldn't show their faces in polite company. TREMORS 4 will be released in October with the TV series still set to premiere on Sci-fi Channel in the next couple weeks. Also in he works, according to :
BRAINSCAN: ASCENDANCY - a sequel to the Edward Furlong bomb. Furlong is expected to return, one assumes after his duties on the new CROW movie are complete.
THE MOTHMAN LIVES - a Gere-less sequel to MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, which I really liked. Seriously. Have you seen it?
AGENT CODY BANKS 2 - horror is subjective and the mere prospect of sitting through one more second of Frankie Muniz qualifies with me. It starts filming in six weeks, although the film is currently bombing
EVOLUTION: CONTINUED - proof that no matter how big a film tanks, someone will try to suck it dry. David Duchovny is expected to cameo.
URBAN LEGEND 3 - which is making me want to pound my fists like Charlton Heston at the end of PLANET OF THE APES.
Talk about overused film concepts on our underused !
