View Full Version : Name That Monster Movie!

Alright, here we go!

Just as I did with the "NAME THAT ASIAN MOVIE" (http://www.horrorexpress.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1243) thread, I thought posting mystery screen captures from various DVD's I have and asking everyone if they knew what movie they came from was a pretty snazzy idea. So, without further rambling, here's the new "NAME THAT MONSTER" thread!

See if you can name the horror movie that these monsters are from. The three mystery pix are...

#1 - http://cinemabizarre.blogspot.com/Monster%20Pix%2001.jpg

#2 - http://cinemabizarre.blogspot.com/Monster%20Pix%2002.jpg

#3 - http://cinemabizarre.blogspot.com/Monster%20Pix%2003.jpg

Good luck.

Hey DevilMan!

I see you got another cool thread going. Let me see what those monster pics are from. The first picture, i'm thinking is, From Dusk Til Dawn, and the second pic is from, Deep Rising with Treat Williams. The third, kind of reminds me of Jeepers Creepers 2, but i'm not sure, I guess i'll have to stick with my guess for that one.

DevilMan

Wow! You got 'em all on the first try. And here I thought DEEP RISING was gonna be the hard one outta that bunch.

Okay then, I'm cooking up another set. This time alittle tougher I hope. :shifty:

Whats up DevilMan!

WOW! Those are some cool ass pics. You are right, these pics are way harder, i'm totally baffled. I'm going to have to guess on these pics. The first pic, I have no clue what film it is from, but the creature in it looks kinda like the "Tar Man" from Return Of the Living Dead, but I know it is not from that film. The second pic i'm guessing is from CHUD, and the Third one is from the Relic. Good job with these pictures DevilMan. I hope you will reveal what films these pictures are from soon, cause i'm interested in checking those films out.

Hah, Raven if I did that I'd be back in about five years. :D

Really the one thing that has never ceased to amaze me since the start of Horror Express is the absolutely amazing amount of knowledge some people have of the horror genre. It really is quite breathtaking.

I consider everyone here is giving me an education. But I still think I'll be in remedial classes for some time yet.

That's totally right. You got a "Monster Movie Encyclopedia" in your hands or what?! No seriously though, good answers but still no luck with the first image? Here's a hint, think Australian killer ants.

As for the others, I thought THE RELIC one might be tough since the picture isn't a full head or body shot of the beast. But the DVD was rather dark and the creature moves so quick, most screen captures were blurry.

I'll have some more pix up in a moment.

UNHOLY...

#1 - A good one. I don't think I've ever seen the fella before. Maybe one of the TALES FROM THE CRYPT episodes?

#2 - As NYRIPPER said, that's one of those alien / human creatures from THE THING.

#3 - Man, I've seen that dude before but I'll be damned if I know the exact movie. Is he from one of THE GHOULIES flicks?

NEWYAWKRIPPER...

#1 - I know I've seen that golden face before and it'll haunt me to no end because I just can't quite put my finger on the movie's name. It's one of those where you slap yourself when you finally hear the name and say why didn't remember that one.

#2 - As SPIRITUAL BOXER said, that's BASKET CASE.

#3 - Wow, I have absolutely no idea! It'll be interesting to find out though.

Damn, I think I'm only one off the trifecta here Steve.
But I'll post my answers to #2 and #3 in white to give other people a chance to guess all three.

#2, I'm pretty certain is from Robert Heinlein's THE PUPPET MASTERS (or less likely it's sequel)

#3, Looks like an image of the alien, right before the final confrontation, in SIGNS?

I just wish I could pin down #1. Then again maybe I've got both of the above wrong and am just making myself look an idiot, anyway. :teeth:

Yes, you are correct. I didn't think anyone would get #2 really. But I see that I'm not the only one that likes those "alien body snatcher" kind of movies.

Cool way to keep "spoilers" hidden. I've seen some boards that have black areas instead of white. You'll have to give me the code so I can use it here myself.

I've seen #2 a couple of times. The main reason is I'm a minor fan of Heinlein, and, as you say, because of it's similarity to THE BODY SNATCHERS, which I absolutely love.

Keeping things hidden is pretty easy, with a black skin it would be just using a Black Color tag, but because this is white you just substitute a HIDE THIS tag. The dropdown box above doesn't have 'white' as an option, so just choose another color and edit the text to white.
If, and when, we go over to a black skin that won't work though, but atm it does.

I wish I could pin down #1 to get the first 3 in 1 of these, but the image is a little dark, and I think I've already far exceeded my dubious horror knowledge anyway.

Man! I guess i'm just lucky. I haven't seen those films in years, but for some reason those images that you presented sparked some memories that I must have stored in the back of my head. I thought the picture that you got from the RELIC was a good pic. I remember the creature having those big tusks by its mouth, which helped me guess what film it was from. As for the first image, I still have no clue where it is from. Completely baffled.

Okay, these are moving way too fast for me. I have used the INVISOTEXT thingee. Of the second to last batch:

1. THE MUMMY maybe?

3. THE HOLLOW MAN (A film which in many ways I hate even more than Verhoeven's SHOWGIRLS)

Of the latest batch:

2. THE FOG

That third one is really bugging me. I want to say it's from BRAIN DAMAGE but for some reason that doesn't seem right.

Don't worry for those who are discouraged. These have all had me on the ropes. And as you all know, I'm someone who fancies himself a bit of an expert... or someone who talks out of his ass most of the time. Probablya little more of the latter than the former.

No, the "merman-beast" (hint, hint) is not from that movie. I'm surprised SPIRITUAL BOXER couldn't get it either. It's right along the same lines as DEEP RISING, THE RELIC, and CHUD.

And I apologize for the first image on that last set. It's not actually from a true "horror" movie in the genre sense of the word. But the film has monsters in it so that's why it's posted. I suppose some hints are probably in store for it if no one can name it.

By the way, I know this is totally off subject, but I just watched this new anime last night from the makers of Cowboy Bebop called Samurai Champloo, and I must say that it kicks all kinds of FUCKING ASS! Pardon the language. Everything from the independant hip-hop and trip-hop soundtrack to the action choreography to the way it was drawn, composed, and edited is simply top-notch. Everyone needs to check it out, and on the plus side, I think it is rated 16 and up, so you can count on it being violent.

I think he is right, because DAWN OF THE DEAD was called ZOMBIE in italy, and Fulci's ZOMBIE is suppose to be ZOMBIE 2 in italy, and just ZOMBIE here in the states.

Is the second pic from, TALES FROM THE HOOD? The film is comprised of a few different stories that are put together like TALES FROM THE CRYPT. I think the second pic is from one of those stories. The one about a racist politician in the south who moves into a mansion that used to be owned by a black lady who was rumored to be a voodoo priestess that had alot of wooden dolls that came to life.
