There really isn't a better resource for all thing RING than . True to form, they've uncovered some details on a sequel from a source. It goes like this:
"A contact in DreamWorks has confirmed that meetings have taken place about RING 2. It looks like Naomi Watts has been in talks to star again, and she is about to sign. She will pull in an estimated $15 million (unconfirmed publicly) for her reprisal of her role, and the child actor will return as her son ( HE Note: That's David Dorfman from BOUNCE and the upcoming TEXAS CHAINSAW remake ). No concrete story has been proposed, but Director Gore Verbinski may not return. The writing team will reunite. Spielberg, Wes Craven or Sam Mendes may take over the project. The sequel will NOT have anything to do with the Japanese sequels. A rough script will be in by December of this year. Hopefully, an October 2004 release date will be met. They will shoot for a two year anniversary."
Of the directors, Sam Mendes would probably be the best choice. Don't go with Craven, he can be a good genre director but would take this one in the wrong direction. Besides, Craven is already tapped to remake another Asian horror film, PULSE ( a.k.a. KAIRO ).
Looks like the American series is going off in a completely different version than their Japanese counterparts. Fine by me. It might add something new to the mythos, but just remember those great originals are still out there.
Also in the news, we haven't heard much about the DAWN OF THE DEAD ( a.k.a. ZOMBI ) remake. No news was good news as far as I was concerned, but today the silence is broken. reports that Zach Snyder has been tapped to direct. It would be Snyder's first film, after a career directing big-budget commercials.
I'll be blotting out my eyes like Oedipus. In the meantime, post in our Forums!
