BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR, the Brian Yuzna-directed third in the Herbert West series, has been sold to the Sci Fi Channel (!) and will be airing on the cable station in June. The film’s extreme scenes (Fango editor Tony Timpone saw the film at last month’s American Film Market and loved it) will likely fall prey to Sci Fi’s Standards & Practices guidelines. Those who want to see it uncut will be able to check it out at the Philadelphia Film Festival (which will screen it three times) in April and at Fantasia this summer. Lions Gate releases an unrated DVD of BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR September 23.

Oh, for the love of.... This is how most of the U.S. saw DOG SOLDIERS, by the way. And many when they saw it thought it was too tame - mainly because every cuss word and shot of gore was omitted. And now they're doing it to Herbert West and his zombie hordes. Just horrible!
I can't blame Yuzna's camp or Sci-fi Channel. They've had a good relationship going for a while now. All of the Fantastic Factory films have aired on Sci-fi Channel to pretty good ratings ( DAGON just appeared last week, and I don't know how censored that got ). Also, it gives a good return on what is basically a hard market to crack. FF films get theatrical releases in many countires, but not here. This is probably a very sound and profitable solution.
But as a fan, I will not be watching. I don't watch censored prints on general principle, having gone through the whole charade of censorship myself. I will wait for the September DVD release. Then, I'll be first in line. You can count on it. But I won't watch a PG-13 RE-ANIMATOR flick.

Thanks for the news Coyote.
Been waiting for this film for a *long* time. Since Bride of Re-Animator really.
I too am torn about how to take this.
On one hand you would think it was a bad sign. But with Dog Soldiers premiering on Sci-Fi it at least doesn't scream "this film sucks" like it may have before. Hopefully it will create a lot of interest for the film and mean it gets a lot of DVD sales as soon as it is released. Assuming of course that it isn't a major dissapointment.
Over here in the UK we don't seem to get the 'benefit' of seeing these cut versions on our Sci-Fi channel. Neither Dog Soldiers nor Dagon have aired here. In fact the only recent 'name' horror movie that has been shown is Ginger Snaps (which I still haven't caught). So I am unlikely to get the chance to see it anyway.
But you know, in a way I like what the Sci-Fi channel is doing. Showing these really new movies, often the best the horror genre has to offer, can only serve to spread horror to the masses. Hell it's got to be better than them showing the nth repeat of 'the Outer Limits'.
I truly hope Combs is back on form. Can't wait to find out.
