For those hoping for a quick follow up to the Great British Werewolf movie after reading Scott's a couple of weeks ago I have bad news. Neil Marshall (Writer/Director of DS) revealed to that *his* plans to continue Dog Soldiers will not become reality. Dog Soldiers may have had it's day, with or without him.

Marshall says of the rumours of a Dog Soldiers sequel - “That was the idea at the beginning. But in order to get 'Dog Soldiers' made I had to sell all my rights (remake, sequel etc) to the U.S, so now I’ve got no control over anything like that. There was talk of a sequel with the producers, but not now”.

On his next project: “It’s called 'The Dark' and is very much in the style of 'The Thing' or 'Aliens'. It’s about 5 women cavers who head down the darker steps of a cave and encounter something pretty disturbing below.”

Marshall also speaks of his wish to get involved with the 'Alien' Franchise, having written a script for Alien3, which he now thinks could be used for a possible return to the series.

“They go back to the original planet from the first film where they discover more eggs on the spacecraft and so have to rescue the people back there”, he says. “You never know, it might be used for a future one”.

Colour me cynical, but the idea that "they go back 'cos there's more Aliens there" doesn't get me doing the Macarene. Still Marshall has more than shown he is capable of turning out top quality horror so who knows.

Too bad. Sounds like a sequel probably would get made, but in the U.S., by different people, and likely with a straight-to-video market in mind. Any way you slice it, a sorry fate for this franchise.

As for that ALIEN script, I wouldn't be surprised if the treatment is used in the future, at least as a jumping-off point. Sigourney Weaver has said in the past that she has always wanted to return to the alien homeworld ( I assume she's talking about the movies, and not her therapy sessions ) for a fifth installment. She has also hinted that it would be about the only thing that could get her back for a fifth time. I'd like to see some of this whole Earth thing first, but that's just me....
